Who We Are

The Hmong Student Organization is a society of students who wants to expand their knowledge and explore activities of the Hmong culture beyond the classroom. Our organization encourages activities, which takes Hmong language and culture learning out of the classroom and into the community at large. HSO promotes students to become global learners by increasing their knowledge to the culture through visiting many different places, restaurants, festivals, or abroad opportunities.

The purpose of the HSO is to create opportunities for students to practice Hmong conversation and connect with their roots to the culture and customs of Hmong-speaking people in the United States and around the world.

As an organization, we have been learning about the Hmong history and giving out ideas about how to solve the problems we have today in our society. How can we make changes? How can we help make a difference? It all takes some time and efforts to put into and learn about our own history.

Fundraising Events

HSO students have been busy fundraising for the China trip happening on March 23rd 2016. We have had some fundraising events such as, our eggroll sales, bubble tea, and selling candy flowers during the Valentine weekend. So far we have not met our goal and we are still planning to do more fundraising.

Bubble Tea

HSO Fundraiser Bubble TeaWe all help each other and volunteer to come and help out. Our goal is to take what we have learned from China and pass on the experiences to anyone we meet and to our friends, peers and family.
On February 19, we sold bubble tea at the middle school movie night.
We had 3 flavors, which were Strawberry, Honeydew, and Taro. Our most popular flavor that most people buy would be Strawberry.

Our first trial of making bubble tea was at Prairie Seeds Academy Hmong New Year. The bubble Tea was a big hit, although sometimes we failed because it was our first time making the drink. But over time we developed and finally managed to get the hang of this.

Egg Rolls

HSO Fundraiser Making EggrollsOur eggroll sales were also a big hit. On October 15, 2015 was our very first day of making the egg rolls. It went well, many of the members showed up with the prepping and rolling. We only sold the egg rolls to the staff members in the school, and many of them bought it. We did our very best to make delicious eggrolls.

During Valentine’s week, we sold candied flowers to both high school and middle school. Many people bought the flowers and wrote letters or mini notes to their boyfriend/girlfriend or their crush or just to another friend. We sold them for 3 days during MS/HS lunch. On delivery day, we saw many surprising smiles.
